Collage: A juxtaposition of defunct cinemas along Kampala Road, as advertised on Page 4 of the Uganda Argus(1972). This is part of Page 4, an ongoing research project documenting and cataloging old cinemas (1960–1999) and films in East Africa.

Jim Joel is an Archivist & Artist | Weaver of stories and keeper of memories. He collects, preserves, and reimagines the past through art and archives, bringing hidden histories to life. His project, Page 4, explores the lost cinemas of Kampala and the films they screened—once vibrant cultural spaces—through photography mapping, archival storytelling, and immersive exhibitions. Beginning with Odeon Cinema (now House of rest Auditorium), the project revives narratives of Kampala’s cinematic past while expanding to other cities like Soroti, Mbale, and Jinja. Through Page 4, he invites audiences to experience the intersection of history, architecture, and collective memory.

Materials sourced from Jim Joel Nyakana as a part of his resources to aid the discussions and engagement at the 12th Kitchen @the Granary session with Jim Joel Nyakana.

The session took place on Saturday 22nd February 2025 from 8am - 12pm at Plot 12 Bathia house, buganda road, before hotel triangle (if you're coming from cps side)
