'Do Not copy, coping puts God to sleep', Elimu Njau

Associate Professor George Kyeyune is part of a team of researchers, scholars, curators and artists examining the history of Modern Art within East Africa to develop a course that will be accessible to the public and can greatly enrich the scholarly, artistic endeavours of anyone interested in the subject. The program under the East African Museum of Art- Nairobi (EAMAN) quite inevitably encourages expansive research into pre-independence and post-independence art practices within East Africa and Africa as a whole.  As this program is underway, Prof George invites us to explore together with him the state of Modern art in Uganda, the artists whose practices overlap the modern and contemporary art practices and whose practices we can ably attribute to a history of art as we know it today.
